Maria SS. Immacolata | Church | ACQUAFREDDA

The Church of Maria Santissima Immacolata is the parish church of Acquafredda di Maratea.
It is located in the central core of the hamlet, set with its characteristic bell tower, in the middle of some valuable nineteenth-century factories.
The church was built in 1833 as an extension of a chapel, constituting the current presbytery, dating back to the mid-eighteenth century.

Works of art in the Church

The interior of the Church of the Most Holy Virgin Immaculate in Acquafredda, with a single nave, is decorated in an extremely elegant Roman style.

On the splendid main altar, made of polychrome marble and with a golden tabernacle, stands the statue of the Immaculate, the protector of Acquafredda, accompanied, on a lateral altar in the nave, by a sculpture of Our Lady of Mount Carmel from 1897.

The elegant wooden group of S. Anna and the Madonna, from the nineteenth century, is also placed above the door of the sacristy.

The statue of Our Lady of Sorrows, located on the right side of the nave, dates back to the eighteenth century.

On the left side, beneath the altar of St. Blaise, a nineteenth-century painting, there is the tomb of patriot Costabile Carducci, who fell at Acquafredda on July 4, 1848, as remembered by a plaque outside the church, killed by Bourbon spies.
