ST. BLASE , the Patron Saint of Maratea

ST. BIASE

St. Blaise & Maratea

St. Blaise is very much if not everything for Maratea : you cannot be born or have lived in this town without becoming devoted to the famous Armenian Saint known all over the world but, above all for the inhabitants of Maratea, patron of the City.

Maratea represents one of the most important sacred sites for followers of St. Blaise, as it is the seat of an important sanctuary that houses various relics of the saint, the most important of which is his thorax, which arrived in Maratea by fortunate circumstances to escape the iconoclastic persecutions in the East.

His complete belonging to Maratea, in history, in traditions, in faith, and the very spread of his name among the inhabitants of the Lucanian town makes this devotion unique.

And even the visitor, who participates in the atmosphere of the Festival or gathers in prayer in the Papal Basilica, is involved in something mystical yet natural.

It is essential, on a website dedicated to Maratea, to explain what this Saint actually represents for the City, for example by living the story of the Feast of St. Blaise, or by knowing everything about St. Blaise of Sebaste through history and legend.
