Santa Anna | Curch | old town

At the Church of St. Anne; according to tradition, the second oldest church in the historic center of Maratea. a legend that mixes history and faith is associated with it.

It is said that the small church in the rione Casaletto, originally a small chapel from the fourteenth century, fell into ruins over the centuries.
In the nineteenth century, the sisters Virgallite of S. Chirico Raparo, both nuns of the Convent of the Rosary, received in a dream the prayer of St. Anne, who asked the people of Maratea to renew their devotion to her, restoring her chapel.
The sisters, the following morning, communicated their dream to Giuseppe Ciciararo called "the Cantor," who passed by their cell's window every day on his way to his farm.
The "Cantor" immediately began to spread St. Anne's desire, and the people of Maratea, in short order, gave Ciciararo a large amount of alms that allowed not only to fix the chapel, but to make it into the current little church.

Even today, one can read, under the larger altar, the dedication of devotion by Ciccio Araro dated 1846.
