The Three Beaches: Abisso | Setteponti | AI Piedi del Cedro | MARINA DI MARATEA
The Three beaches: Abissu, Setteponti & Cala del Cedro

At Marina di Maratea, there are the little beaches of Riciulillu (or of the Sea Urchins), also known as the Seven Bridges for the arches of the old railway bridge that looms behind, the Abissu (the Abisso), and ‘mpedi ‘u Citru (in front of the cedar tree), also known as the Seaweed Beach. These three small coves are located between the point of Dentice and the promontory called Timpa Tenaglia.
The first is a tiny hint of sand, accessible by land through a recently installed staircase carved into the rock, rich in rocky cliffs and nooks.
The second one is mostly a cove among some rocks; while the third, slightly farther away, is the largest and in winter is usually home to large seaweed or blades of seagrass on the shore.
