The Sorrounding Of Maratea | The Excursions

Not only MARATEA. Discover the sorrounding

Maratea, as known, is the only stretch of territory Lucan lapped by the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Sandwiched between the two regions, Campania to the north, the southern Calabria, Maratea has naturally exchanged various contaminations with traditions and dialects of neighboring countries, geographically close but far away in other respects because of membership in three different regions.

DESTINATIONS

Hiking in the surroundings of Maratea

Starting from the north, Sapri is certainly the most famous locality that borders Maratea, in the province of Salerno.

Located at the southern tip of Cilento and famous for the expedition of the Three Hundred of Pisacane, it is connected to Maratea via the S.S. 18, one of the most spectacular and scenic stretches of this road that clings to the cliffs of the coast.

Towards the interior, just behind and still within the province of Potenza, the nearest town to Maratea, both geographically and linguistically, is Trecchina.

A characteristic mountain village with agricultural and artisanal traditions, the territory of Trecchina is characterized by large chestnut forests and an unspoiled environment.

In the hinterland, Rivello is the most interesting location both from a landscape and architectural and monumental point of view.

Located on the banks of the Noce river, which then flows into the sea at Castrocucco, it is considered a small jewel of urban architecture.

Southward, the border represented by the aforementioned River Noce divides Basilicata from Calabria, the province of Potenza from that of Cosenza, and finally the territory of Maratea from that of Tortora.

Almost certain site of the ancient city of Blanda that unites in origin these two countries,

Tortora has a beautiful Historic Center with the important Blanda Museum where one can admire the testimonies of the peoples who have inhabited it: the Enotrians, Lucanians, and Romans.
