Spiaggia Nera ( Black) Beach | Cala Jannita
Laura Pausini's new video filmed entirely on the black sand beach
beach rating: 4/5
The beach of Cala Jannita - or "beach of the islet of Santo Janni," located opposite - is characterized by the distinctive color of its sand, which is not volcanic in origin, as one might easily assume, but rather due to the black rock debris present in the area.
Located north of the Matrella Point at Marina di Maratea, the Black Beach is surrounded by dense vegetation and has become one of the most beloved beaches by Maratea guests.
It is reached on foot from the parking lot via a short street immersed in vegetation that ends with a staircase leading to sea level.
On Black Beach, the Sciabella grotto opens up, enclosing within itself a small cove and surrounded by legendary tales told by the elderly women of Marina di Maratea.
It is said that a unfaithful woman named Isabella used this cave for her amorous trysts with her lovers, only to be discovered by her husband, who killed her by making her fall through the hole that opens in the ceiling of the cave.
