MARATEA IS NATURE

The book, written by Professor Biagio Trotta, explores the thought and legacy of Fernando Sisinni, a prominent figure in Basilicata’s political life and Mayor of Maratea during the 1970s and 1980s.
Published to mark the 25th anniversary of Sisinni’s death, the volume represents a significant milestone in the recovery and organisation of the valuable documentary and planning legacy left by the Maratea-born politician.
The book provides a clear and balanced account of Fernando Sisinni’s political and administrative activity during his tenure as Mayor, from 10 December 1975 to 15 June 1986, avoiding any celebratory tone. The author reconstructs, in chronological order, the principal projects and programmes developed by the municipal administration led by Sisinni, with particular emphasis on the “Maratea Project”.
This initiative asserted the Municipality’s right to determine its own path of development, challenging both national and regional bureaucratic centralism. At its core was the belief that Maratea should be governed by its own citizens—people deeply connected to the territory, its history and its unique local identity.
